Notaries in Colorado are commissioned by the Colorado Secretary of State. Apply there first. StampSide is a public page after you have used their process. Colorado publishes a verify-a-notary search. The official roster file includes Enotary and Remote Notary columns.

Application
The SOS notary home page links instructions to apply for a new commission and eFile.
Stamp
By law the official stamp must be a rectangular ink stamp with a border. Embossers cannot be used.
Journal
Every notary must keep a journal of every notarial act, with one exception the SOS describes on the seals FAQ.

How to get started

  1. Follow the new-commission instructions

    The Colorado SOS notary home page links apply instructions (PDF) and eFile.

  2. Order a stamp after approval

    The SOS does not send a stamp or journal. They say to order after you have a certificate so the name and notary ID match.

  3. Register on StampSide

    After you use the Colorado Secretary of State site, create a public page: photo, where you work, and how clients reach you. You can appear in the Colorado directory. The page stays unpublished until a commission is on file.

    Rectangular ink stamp with a border. Destroy the old stamp when you resign or renew. The SOS does not sell stamps.
