Requirements

Citizenship

U.S. citizen, or a national or permanent resident alien who diligently seeks citizenship upon becoming eligible.

Character letter

A letter from a reputable Hawaii resident, not an employer or relative, attesting to honesty, trustworthiness, financial integrity, and moral character.

Non-refundable application fee $20.00.

How to get started

   Apply online with the Attorney General

   The AG notaries page says you must apply online and submit the supporting letters they list.

2. 02

   Watch the six-month clock

   Unless otherwise provided by law, the Attorney General acts within six months after a complete application is filed. Incomplete files can be treated as abandoned after 90 days.

3. 03

   Register on StampSide

   After you use the Hawaii Department of the Attorney General site, create a public page: photo, where you work, and how clients reach you. You can appear in the Hawaii directory. The page stays unpublished until a commission is on file.

Processing time

The Attorney General page cites a rule that the office acts within six months after a complete application is filed.
