Maine Secretary of State
Become a notary in Maine
Notaries in Maine are commissioned by the Maine Secretary of State. Apply there first. StampSide is a public page after you have used their process. Look up a commission with the active notary / Dedimus search. The agency notes the roster may be incomplete.
Where to register
Applications go to the Maine Secretary of State. Open their page for the current application, not a StampSide form.

- Application
- New applicants complete the most recent Application for a Notary Public Commission and deliver it to the Secretary of State.
How to get started
Download the current application
Maine links a new Notary Public Application (PDF) and a credit-card voucher from the apply/renew page.
Renewals: print, take the oath, mail
Renewals are processed online, then you print, appear before a Dedimus Justice for the oath, and mail the signed exam and oath. Use the confirmation email if the forms did not print.
Register on StampSide
After you use the Maine Secretary of State site, create a public page: photo, where you work, and how clients reach you. You can appear in the Maine directory. The page stays unpublished until a commission is on file.
Tools after you apply
Official pages and named suppliers already listed in this product. Checkout is on their site — StampSide does not sell stamps.
Supplies
After you are commissioned, use a named supplier for a Maine-specific seal.

Remote / electronic notarization
Maine has a separate apply-to-be-a-remote-electronic-notary page.
Register, then getting started
StampSide does not commission you — the Maine Secretary of State does, on the official site above. Register here for a public page. After you sign up, getting started walks through a photo, your commission when you have it, and an email signature for cards and mail. The page stays unpublished until a commission is on file.
After you are commissioned
Appear in the Maine directory. Closers and the public still confirm standing on the official site.
