Become a notary in Oregon

Notaries in Oregon are commissioned by the Oregon Secretary of State. Apply there first. StampSide is a public page after you have used their process. Oregon publishes an official listing of active notaries. That listing is not the same as a live name-search on the SOS site.

Applications go to the Oregon Secretary of State. Open their page for the current application, not a StampSide form.

Training and exam
A mandatory “Basics” training course is required with the application, exam, and filing fee.

How to get started

  1. Complete Basics training

    The commission-application page says you may need your education number and exam certificate ID.

  2. Take the exam and apply

    Choose “Take the Exam and Apply (training completed)” on the SOS notary application page.

  3. Return the oath of office

    Once approved, the SOS emails an oath of office. Check spam.

  4. Register on StampSide

    After you use the Oregon Secretary of State site, create a public page: photo, where you work, and how clients reach you. You can appear in the Oregon directory. The page stays unpublished until a commission is on file.
